🗺️ Map of Tannaim & Amoraim in the Talmud Bavli

Welcome to our interactive map of the Talmud showing where the sages of the Talmud lived, which generation they belonged to, and the Talmud pages they appear on.

This was made with the help of AI and may contain errors. If you find any errors or have suggestions, please reach out using the feedback form.

How to use

  • Map: hover or tap a dot for a sage's details · tap a city name to see every sage of that academy across the generations.
  • Zoom into the map to see the names of the sages displayed directly on the map.
  • Pick a tractate and page to see every sage who appears on that page. The Daf Yomi button goes to today's Daf Yomi page.
  • Clicking a sage opens a panel with their description and how many times they appear in the Talmud.
  • Drag the timeline slider to a year, or click a generation or historical event. On a mobile device, the ☰ button opens the menu.
  • Type a sage's name in the search box to find them directly on the map. The 🏷 Names button shows or hides sage names on the map.
  • A ⚠ next to a sage on a page means the attribution there is chronologically doubtful; the note explains why.
  • Switch between the modern and ancient maps, change the language, print the sages currently shown, take the guided tour, or send feedback.
